She works as a plasterer but is “too pretty” to be respected by her colleagues and customers

She is young, beautiful, well-groomed and this causes her a problem as she has to work harder than her male colleagues in order to be respected. The 27-year-old Melissa Borsellino from Hudson, previously worked in nightclub public relations when she realized it wasn’t the right career for her and decided to pursue something else.

The ideal solution for her was to follow in the footsteps of her father who was a builder in particular plasterer.

From a young age, Melissa walked beside her father among men at the construction sites where her father worked. When she asked him to teach her the job he showed disbelief and so did the young lady she first had to prove to herself that she could stand the profession.

As he said to dailymail.co.uk her bright appearance causes confusion on the construction sites she is in to plaster. “I have yet to meet another woman in the industry… I understand it’s unusual to see a girl show up with hair extensions and fake nails, but I’ve learned to ignore the shocked faces,” Melissa said.

“I needed to leave my previous job. It made me very anxious. But I am too dyslexic so my options were limited. So I decided to enter this particular job and learn the profession. I asked my 56 year old dad to let me work with him. I asked him “what can i do to earn a decent income like a dude?“”

The first job she did was to paint the shed of her house, a job that has nothing to do with plastering, but she did it simply to prove that she was ready to deal with manual labor and mud.

I couldn’t even lift a bag of ingredients when I first started, so I joined the gym and within a few weeks I threw it on my shoulder” said the young lady who has already been in this industry for three years.

Melissa has also had to cope with the negative comments she has heard because of her gender and has even been told that she is “very beautiful» to be dealing with plasters.

But the young woman is determined to prove that the world it’s not just made for men and encourages other women to do the same.

Some people assume I’m a cleaner or a worker and I correct thembut now I let my work do the talking” he characteristically said.
