Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said last Saturday that she rejected an offer from US President Donald Trump of sending US troops to fight drug cartels in Mexico.
During the inauguration of a public university in the city of Texcoco, Sheinbaum confirmed in a report from the American newspaper Wall Street Journal that Trump had made the offer, saying that she was mentioned during “some of the connections” that they had since the Republican took office in January.
“How can we help her fight drug trafficking? I propose that the US army will help you,” Sheinbaum said, mentioning the conversation he had with Trump.
“And do you know what I said to him? No, President Trump. Territory is inviolable. Sovereignty is inviolable. Sovereignty is not for sale. Sovereignty is valued and defended. It is not necessary; we can collaborate, we can work together, but you in our territory and we in ours. We can share information, but we will never accept the presence of American military in our territory,” he added.
THE CNN He contacted the White House to comment on the conversation, but has not yet received an answer.
In addition, Sheinbaum has already taken a firm position on points involving foreign interference in Mexican affairs. The president also argued to maintain the “cold head” in the negotiations with Washington, amid tensions on immigration, drug trafficking and US tariffs on Mexican products.
On Tuesday (30), Sheinbaum said that his government analyzes executive orders signed by Trump that relieves tariffs on car automakers, recognizing the action as an advance in the trade agreement between countries.
