Asked about Laura Loomer’s impact on his campaign during the press conference, Trump defended the activist and said that she only supports his campaign.
“Laura has been a supporter of mine, as have many other people. She speaks very positively about the campaign. I don’t control Laura. Laura has her say. She’s a free spirit.”
Hours later, Trump sought to distance himself from Loomer, who for years has promoted baseless conspiracy theories and posted racist content online. The former president wrote a post on Truth Social saying he disagreed with some of her statements, though he did not specify which ones.
“Laura Loomer does not work for the campaign. She is a private citizen and longtime supporter. I disagree with the statements she has made, but like the many millions of people who support me, she is tired of seeing the radical left Marxists and fascists viciously attack and smear me, to the point that she will do anything to stop her political opponent, ME!” Trump wrote.
