The killer of the former Japanese prime minister seems to have a passion for weapons Shinzo Abeas an entire arsenal was found in his house, while the weapon that he used in the attack, is improvised and created by him.
In particular, the Police found in his house 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami one homemade weapons and explosives workshop. At the same time, based on the official information of the authorities, the weapon he used, he made it himself with two pieces, one for the barrel and the second for the handle, of wood. Yes, it also used an electronic detonation mechanism.
This is the improvised weapon used by the perpetrator:

Strict gun laws in Japan
The authorities are therefore thoroughly investigating the life of Shinzo Abe’s killer, as in Japan, gun ownership restrictions do not allow citizens to carry firearms and hunters who have a permit are only allowed to possess hunting weapons.
The gun owners are required to attend classes, pass written tests and undergo a mental health examinationwhile their criminal record is also checked.
So, gun attacks, when they do occur, usually involve “yakuza” mafia thugs, using illegal weapons. When mass murders occur, such as in 2016 when 19 people were killed in an institution for the mentally retarded, the deadly weapon is usually a knife
In addition, attacks targeting politicians are also unusual. Attacks have been few and far between in the last 50 years, most prominently in 2007 when the mayor of Nagasaki was assassinated by a thug, an incident that led to further tightening of gun restrictions.
[UPDATE] Japanese National Police have raided the Tetsuya Yamagami house and it looks like other than explosives, they also found another multi-barrelled firearms which similar to one used for assassination@CalibreObscura pic.twitter.com/fX9wS2Ic4D

The last time a former prime minister was assassinated was in 1936 during the country’s extreme pre-war militarism.
Who is the 41-year-old killer?
Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported, citing imgs close to the police, that the man, who opened fire on Abe, was displeased with him and decided to kill him.
It is not yet clear why the man, who was named by police as Tetsuya Yamagami, is a permanent resident of Nara.
According to Japanese media, the attacker, who was taken into custody immediately, is a former member of the Japanese Navy and used a homemade rifle.
