Shinzo Abe’s funeral will be held on Monday and Tuesday

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s funeral will be held on Monday (11) and Tuesday (12), Abe’s office told CNN . A wake will be held on Monday, followed by a memorial on Tuesday.

The funeral will be attended by his widow, Akie Abe, at a temple in Tokyo, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported.

Participation will be limited to family members and people close to the former prime minister, NHK added.

Former prime minister was assassinated while speaking

Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest-serving leader, died on Friday after being shot while campaigning for a parliamentary election.

The man who fired the shots was detained by the police. He used a homemade weapon.

Abe, who sought to lift the economy out of chronic deflation with his bold “Abenomics” policies, strengthen the military and fight China’s growing influence, has died at age 67.
