A vessel that was going to dock at the port of Natal (RN) collided with one of the pillars of the Newton Navarro bridge on the afternoon of last Monday (22).
The ship left the port of Pecém, in Ceará, and was bound for the city of Rio Grande (RS), 316 kilometers from Porto Alegre, and was transporting blades for wind energy towers. The captain of the vessel decided to enter the port of Natal after encountering bad weather on the high seas.
The Rio Grande do Norte State Infrastructure Secretariat stated that there were no victims in the collision and that only minor damage was found to the metal plates covering the concrete structure.
The Navy said that an inspection team from the Port Authority went to the site to check for environmental damage and navigation safety. An administrative inquiry will be opened to determine the causes, circumstances and responsibilities for the incident.
“Regarding the measures that deal with the installation of defenses, the Infrastructure Secretariat participated in a working meeting last week with the Ministry of Ports and Airports, which ratified the guarantee of the necessary resources”, says the ministry.
