Ships with thousands of tons of missile propellants set sail from China for Iran

Two cargo ships are expected to sail from China bound for Iran to transport thousands of tons of a chemical used in missile propellants to Tehran. A Financial Times publication wrote that the Iranian-flagged ships – Golbon and Jairan – are expected to carry more than 1,000 tonnes of sodium perchlorate, which is used to make ammonium perchlorate, the main ingredient for solid rocket propellant. Two of the officials said sodium perchlorate could produce 960 tons of ammonium perchlorate, which makes up 70 percent of solid-fuel rocket propellant. That amount of ammonium perchlorate could produce 1,300 tons of propellant, enough to power 260 Iranian medium-range missiles such as the Kheibar Shekan or Haj Qassem, the officials added.
