Shipyard tycoon Iskandar Safa died standing

THE Franco-Lebanese tycoon of the shipyards Iskandar Safaowner of the far-right weekly magazine Valeurs Actuellespassed away yesterday, Monday, as announced by the director of the newspaper in question.

“We are shocked this evening by the news of the death of our owner, Iskandar Safa. He left with the dignity of the knight he was. May God bless his soul and protect his family, who meant so much to him,” Tigdial Denny wrote on social networking platform X.

“A warrior to the end, he faced a serious illness in these last months, which sapped his courage. He died standing on January 29, 2024 in Mougins, surrounded by the warmth of his family“, states the statement written by the magazine's editors and posted on its website.

Born in 1955 into a Christian family, the businessman was one of the people who in 1988 negotiated the release of French hostages in Lebanon.

In France, he became known to the general public in 1992, when he bought them shipyards of Normandy.

It is noted that for a while he was the owner of of Skaramanga shipyards.

Very secretive, Iskandar Safa controlled shipyards in Cherbourg (CNM), Greece (Skaramagas), Abu Dhabi and north of Hamburg in Germany (GNYK for large warships and Nobiskrug, where in 2017 the world's largest sailing ship ).

In 2019, he was a candidate to take over the group Nice-Matin.

His and his brother Akram's fortunes were rising to 1.45 billion eurosaccording to Challenges magazine in 2023.
