Shiseido renews its commitment to protecting and respecting nature, the very nature that has always inspired its formulas, by launching a new initiative aimed at safeguarding the oceans and the marine ecosystem.
After the project, in 2019, dedicated to cleaning the beaches, now, the Ginza group further expands its commitment with the introduction of MARE, a long-term, large-scale project that combines commitment to outreach and scientific exploration. With the support of MARE (Marine Adventure for Research & Education), a project led by the Foundation from Centro Velico Caprera with the scientific collaboration of One Ocean Foundation, From April 27 to July 7, a team of scientists from leading universities, with complementary areas of expertise, embarked on a 10-week journey aboard a catamaran. Their journey will take them from Italy across the Mediterranean to France (Nice, Marseille, Corsica) and Spain (Barcelona, Ibiza, Menorca), before returning to their starting point, La Maddalena.
An important and precious expedition aimed at reaching different objectives. Between these? Contribute to the understanding and protection of marine biodiversity by creating a map of the distribution and presence of endangered species; promote scientific collaboration and the development of a common charter for best practices, offering a free platform open to researchers, students and institutions, to share knowledge and resources; evaluate the level of contamination in the Mediterranean Sea, offering essential data to the scientific community on the various existing chemical pollutants; dthefuse research results and increase awareness among different entities through digital events and communication initiatives.
«At Shiseido, we have always believed in the power of beauty. Our history is made of a search for well-being, from the inside out, in which the environment plays an essential role. Research based on formulas deeply rooted in scientific DNA. This partnership marks a turning point in research on the protection of the marine ecosystem. Being aware of what exactly is polluting our seas, how and to what extent it is doing so, is the only way for the cosmetics industry to create more sustainable formulas in the long term” he comments Nathalie Broussard, Director of Scientific Communication Shiseido.
