The dead from the powerful earthquake of 6.1 points that hit today at dawn in Afghanistan reached 950, said an official of the country’s disaster management service, while adding that another 610 people were injured.
The earthquake occurred today at 01:00 in the morning (local time, 23:30 yesterday, Tuesday, Greek time), while many people were sleepingnear the border with Pakistan, according to the American Geophysical Institute (USGS).
The epicenter was reported 44 miles (44 kilometers) south of Khost, in southeastern Afghanistan. was felt at a distance of more than 500 kilometers, to Pakistan and India, announced the European Mediterranean Seismological Center.
Photos posted on social media show damaged houses on the streets of a village. Local imgs in Paktika province said the quake caused a landslide.

«We are deeply devastated by the loss of human lives “and the damage caused by the devastating earthquake that struck southeastern Afghanistan today,” the foreign ministry said in a Twitter post.
“In these difficult times, our thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones, the injured and all those affected by this tragedy,” he added.
