Italy has been shocked by the murder of Nigerian Alika Ogorcukwu, 39, in the city of Civitanova Marche in central Italy. The victim, who was a street vendor, was beaten with a crutch and then strangled with his bare hands by Filipos Ferlatsos, 32.
At first, the killer claimed that the Nigerian man (disabled after a car accident) molested his fiancee. During the interrogation, however, it was found that this did not happen, and that Ogorkoukvu had begged for some money from Ferlatso.
It caused a sensation that while many residents of Civitanova filmed the scene with their mobile phones, no one intervened to stop the murderous violence of the 32-year-old.
All political forces in Italy, from the extreme right of the Brothers of Italy, to the Italian Left, condemned without any hesitation this barbaric murder.
About a hundred Nigerians living in the wider area, gathered in the afternoon at the scene of the murder, and expressed their bitterness and indignation that no eyewitness tried to help their unfortunate compatriot.
