Shock revelation from Chinese Nobel-winning writer: He confessed to using ChatGPT to write a speech

The Chinese Nobel laureate made a revelation that shocked his audience author Mo Yan. As he said use it ChatGPT to write a speech aimed at praising fellow writer Yu Hua.

The 68-year-old novelist presented a literary award to Yu Hua at the Shanghai Dance Center during Shouhuo magazine’s 65th anniversary celebration.

Create a text of over 1,000 words

The author said he put in the keywords, “To Live!”, “tooth extraction” and “Wen Cheng” and the chatbot generated a reward text of over 1,000 words, written in Shakespearean style.

The reason why Mo chose the three key phrases is that “To Live!” is one of Yu Hua’s most famous novels, “tooth extraction” refers to the fact that Yu Hua was a dentist before becoming a writer, and “Wen Cheng” is his new novel, for which he was awarded at the ceremony.

According to the South China Morning Post, there was a gasp from the audience when it was discovered that the Nobel laureate had written his speech using artificial intelligence.

Video of Mo’s speech at the Shanghai Dance Center has gone viral on the Chinese website Weibo.

In the comments section, some people pointed out, the Athens News Agency reports, that Mo could face legal trouble for reporting on ChatGPT, as the service is not yet available in China.
