Shocking car accident with at least 13 dead in Mexico – They belonged to the same family

A collision between a heavy truck with a trailer and a minibus resulted in the death of at least thirteen people on a highway in the state of Tamaulipas (north) in Mexico yesterday Sunday morning, the authorities announced.

The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of the morning on a section of highway that connects the cities of Hidalgo and Zaragoza, in the southern part of the state, which neighbors the US.

The civil protection services “offered their assistance and so far have confirmed the death of 13 people,” Tamaulipa’s Ministry of Public Security said.

A source close to the prosecution, who asked not to be named, emphasized that the death toll may get even heavier as there are indications that the truck driver was traveling with family members and may also have diedas broadcast by international agencies and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

According to Mexican media, the thirteen victims belonged to the same family and had rented the minibus to go from the city of Monterrey (north) to the state of Veracruz (east). According to their sources, the death toll may exceed twenty dead.

The prosecutor’s office clarified that the investigation at the scene of the tragedy continues.

As the vehicles caught fire after the collision, some of the bodies were found charred.

Traffic accidents involving heavy trucks have increased in recent years in Mexico; most are attributed to the development of excessive speed, the poor condition of many roads and driver fatigue.
