The number of rapes in Brazil rose by 6.5% last year compared to 2022, with a rape recorded on average every six minutes, while the number of homicides fell for the third year in a row, according to a report published today. Latin America’s largest country counted 83,988 rapes last year, a record number since the data began being recorded in 2011 by the non-governmental organization Forum Brasileiro de Segurança Publica (FBSP), based on police records. In its annual report, the FBSP reports a 91.5% increase in the number of rapes compared to 2011 and “a continued increase over the last 13 years”.
