A shootout at Guarulhos international airport, in São Paulo, resulted in the death of Antônio Vinícius Gritzbach, a businessman allegedly linked to the PCC, and left three people injured this Friday (8).
José Vicente Filho, former national secretary of security and retired colonel of the Military Police, in an interview with CNN Arena evaluated the episode as a “window on the great world of organized crime in Brazil”. He highlighted São Paulo as a place of great consumption and traffic movement.
Boldness and Money Laundering
The former secretary highlighted the audacity of the faction in executing Gritzbach in broad daylight, at the country’s largest airport.
According to him, the businessman would be involved in laundering approximately R$30 million, operating in the civil construction and fuel sectors.
“He was a money laundering businessman, actually. He worked in the construction industry, in the fuel industry and in the fuel industry. The Public Ministry was also unveiling this gigantic world of investment of money from the criminal faction”, he explained.
Action of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Security Challenges
The incident highlights the need to strengthen the fight against organized crime. The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), has already presented to President Lula (PT) the demand for the involvement of other forces in controlling these criminal organizations, which operate on a national and international scale.
“The Public Prosecutor’s Office has been acting in a very efficient manner, investigative work, far ahead of the work of the Civil Police and the Federal Police in the last three years”, stated Vicente Filho.
