Two people died, this Tuesday (28), after an Afghan man attacked them with a knife at the Ismaili Center in Lisbon. The victims are two women, aged between 20 and 40, both of Portuguese nationality.
A Public Security Police (PSP) agent shot the suspect in the leg.
The attacker was arrested and taken in serious condition to a hospital in the region. The PSP reinforced policing at the hospital unit.
In a statement, the PSP informs that it was alerted at 10:57 am (local time) and that the first agents arrived at the scene a minute later.
“The police came across a man armed with a large knife. Orders were given to the attacker to cease the attack, which he disobeyed, advancing towards the police, knife in hand. Faced with the serious and ongoing threat, the policemen used firearms against the person, hitting and neutralizing the aggressor”, states the note.
A CNN a PSP source said that “the situation is under control”.
