Energy saving plan will implement the Pakistan, as announced today by the Minister of Defense, Khawaja Asif. The government called for all malls and markets to close by 8:30 p.m. and wedding halls by 10 p.m. daily. Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif ordered all public services to cut energy consumption by 30%.
The country’s foreign exchange reserve levels barely cover the month’s worth of imports, most of which come from energy purchases from abroad, with funds expected under an International Monetary Fund program delayed.
Asif told reporters that the measures approved by the cabinet are aimed at to save the financially stricken country about $273.4 million. He added that some market representatives lobbied for extended opening hours, but the government decided an earlier closure was required.
