SIAE, is the AC/DC the most viewed concert of 2024: “Great events are more and more”

The world of live shows in Italy? “He’s fine.” Word of Angela Tibaldi, vice president of PTSCLAS, who edited the SIAE report reported to 2024. There is everything: From concerts and theater to cinema and dance halls, passing through sports and discos. And the data smile: 3.3 million shows (+6.15%on 2023), 253.5 million spectators (+2.25%) and a total expenditure of over 4 billion euros (+1.94%). Only the average expenditure for spectator (15.83 euros, -0.3%) fall and above all the average audience for entertainment (now 75.2 spectators, -3.7%), testifying to both a general increase in participation and a preference for small and widespread events. “We are in a new normality: the pandemic is now widely behind it,” says Tibaldi.

Concerts

The part of the lion belongs to the concerts, which by total number, collections and public they doubled the 2019 standards: well beyond the simple post-covid recovery. They are only 2% of the total events, but involve 29 million spectators (11%) and produce 25% of the expenditure (first of all, almost one billion euros). To dominate is the light (pop, rock, etc.), with 83% of the spectators, but both the classic are growing (30% of the shows, 13% of the public) and the jazz (11% of the supply, 4% of the demand). Here also the average expenditure per spectator (-1.5%) falls, now dropped to 34.13 euros, but Inflation, for Tibaldi, is a minimum theme. «With the return from Covid, great participation developed, which continues. A great live, and today they are more and more, has become an indispensable appointment, net of any costs. And it is – the data say – an experience to be shared on social media. One of the interpretations, it may be the one for which Our online activity has favored, paradoxically, our presence live ». In short, we willingly witness a concert also to post it online.

The most viewed concert is of the AC/DC at the RCF Arena in Reggio Emilia, with 102 thousand spectators. Then the Green Days (over 78 thousand) and the metal (72 thousand), both in Milan. Taylor Swift is seventh and eighth with the dates of San Siro (64 thousand full), the only Italian in the top ten is Max Pezzali at the Olimpico in Rome, ninth with 64 thousand. Nevertheless, The tour in the stadiums of Vasco Rossi has grossed more than all, 612 thousand eurosbut has no dates neither among the most participating nor the best in the box office, again the prerogative of the international. “In the economy of great events”, explains Tibaldi, “foreigners win: one of their lives is perceived as more” unrepeatable “than others, and is often on a single date, or in any case in a single city. On the contrary, Italian artists like Vasco propose more widespread tours ».

Cinema

Cinema is the only sector in contraction“Even if the first data of 2025 already show a recovery”. The increase in projections (2.7 million, +6.4%) responds a decrease in spectators (73.5 million on74.1, -0.8% on 2023). For the rest, the usual: the most popular month is December, while they command US productions – Inside Out 2 It is first for collections with over 6 and a half millionfollowed by Oceania 2 (2,69) e Very bad me 4 (2,65) – e The only Italian film in the best ten in the box office is The boy with pink trousersseventh (1.4). To ours it is responsible for a ranking in itself, with A world apart second (1.17) e Parthenope third (1.09). There is still tomorrowwhich came out in 2023, is seventh with 700 thousand euros. More generally, US animated films, with implications in terms of public ages. “Young and very young”, explains Tibaldi, “they are often go to the room to see them: they are a hope for the future of cinemas”.

Theater

Positive signals also from the theater: out of 153 thousand shows (+4.5%) 28.25 million spectators were recorded, with an increase of 7.2% compared to 2023, the best of the whole ratio. The average spending per spectator is stable for 20 euros, despite inflation. He commands the prose, but the ballet grows. “And in general, that theater that we do not consider, perhaps,” traditional “,” admits Tibaldi, is fine. The box office confirms this, where he stands out There is always something wrong of the comedian of Andrea Pucci, turned off by the brace of Enrico Brignano, with The 7 kings of Rome (second) and But … let’s donate you of you (third). Fourth is Christmas in the Cupiello house With Vincenzo Salemme (first by number of spectators), fifth and sixth, again, the comedians Angelo Duro (A bad person) and Teresa Mannino (The jaguar looks at me wrong). The theater is obviously their land of conquest.

Sports, fairs, ballrooms

Sport is also fine, with 80 thousand events (+4.9% on 2023) and 38.1 million spectators (+3.7%). Football even occupies 76% of the publicbut team sports also increase (+11.7% of spectators). The individuals, thanks to tennis, record the record value of average spending for spectator (51.73 euros). Finally, the fairs sector is resumed by Pandemia, with 2,729 days (+13.9% on 2023) and over 10.6 million participants (+2.1%). Stable discos and ballrooms, with 22 thousand rooms and the peak of evenings, of course, in the summer.

Structural problems

Still, the problems remain. Above all, the territorial disparity. Beyond a growth of more peripheral areas, “also due to cultural tourism”, it remains a strong gap between North and South, “where adequate structures are often lacking”. This is the case of the great arenas – or directly of the stadiums – per concerts, not surprisingly dominated by Milan. In general, Lombardy holds 18% of all types of shows, with 25% of total expenditure. Follow Lazio, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, who together make 60% of overall expenditure. With only four regions, we are already over 80%: if we talk about large shows, of all kinds, it is an oligopoly.

For the rest, Siae reiterates the effectiveness of economic aid for the various operators in the sector, “like cinemas, who already receive funds, and need it for the increase in costs and the contraction of the shows”. Lastly, a notice to those who, the shows, organizes them, that is, to “face the evolution of the public, increasingly selective and looking for value experiences”. What does it mean? Do not sit, in essence, on the laurels. «There is demand for innovative, and alternative events. Jazz growth is emblematic. In addition to the great events, therefore, there are niches not to be overlooked. And that, indeed, they could be a good source of investment ».
