Siamese are hospitalized in serious condition after separation surgery in Goiás

Sisters Valentina and Eloá Prado, 3 years old, are still hospitalized in the Pediatric ICU of the State Hospital for Children and Adolescents (Hecad), in Goiânia (GO). According to the latest update from the medical team, the health status of the children is serious but stable.

The doctor in charge of the procedure informs that gravity is natural in a case like this, but all the systems of the two girls are still working and there was no clinical worsening or major intercurrences after the surgery.

The sisters were born united by the thorax, abdomen, pelvis, liver, small intestine, large intestine and genitalia. The surgery for separation took place last Wednesday (11) and involved 60 professionals from the public network of Goiás.

The procedure lasted about 15 hours. Valentina was the first to leave the operating room, followed by her sister.

The twins’ parents make periodic visits to their daughters and say they are very relieved with the result of the operation, for being able to see them separated after three years of great care.

The girls continue to receive intravenous medications and breathe with the help of devices. The measure is to preserve the abdominal structure. At this moment, their organism requires some rest for stabilization soon.

The secretary of health of Goiás informed that the girls will undergo evaluation by a plastic surgeon and that they will return to the surgical center for a simple graft, to improve the skin in the operated region.

Valentina and Eloá were born in Guararema, in the interior of São Paulo, but have lived with their family in Goiás for two years.
