The region of Sicily has approved a decision on which the number of gynecologists should be increased by women who wish to interrupt pregnancy. The decision concerns public hospitals and aims to implement the law of the Italian state which guarantees the right to abortion. At the same time, however, the Italian state recognizes Catholic doctors, who are self -described “conscientious objections”, the possibility of not providing their scientific work to discontinue the pregnancy of those women who have made the decision. At national level, 2022 figures show that 60.5% of gynecologists working in Italian, public hospitals are conscientious objection. As the press points out, it is easy to conclude, one that such a high percentage limits, de facto, the ability of women to abortion.
