Sierra Leonean President Julius Maanda Bio today called on his countrymen to learn from the blast that killed at least 98 people in Freetown so that it would “never happen again” in this West African country.
“As a community, let us come together and learn lessons so that this never happens again,” said Bio, who went to the scene of the tragedy today.
“The police, the armed forces and the medical staff will collect all the corpses that are in a bad condition to see how we can offer them a decent burial,” added President Bio.
At least 98 people were killed and 92 injured when a tanker exploded Friday night in the industrial area of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The tanker exploded at a gas station after colliding with another truck. The fire then spread to the surrounding area.
