The efforts of South Korean and Chinese panel makers have resulted in much more widespread use of AMOLED panels in tablets and laptops this year, the source said.
The adoption of AMOLED panels in the tablet sector began to accelerate in 2020, when Samsung Electronics, Lenovo and Oppo released their respective models with high-resolution AMOLED displays.
In addition, the Huawei Mate Pad Pro tablet released in June 2021 also features a 12.6-inch AMOLED screen with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. The AMOLED displays for the Mate Pad Pro are supplied by the Chinese company Everdisplay Optronics (EDO).

Samsung Display allegedly plans to release more than ten laptop panel models in 2021, up from five from a year earlier as other manufacturers including Lenovo and Xiaomi launched 13.3- and 15.6-inch AMOLED laptops. …
Xiaomi Mi Pro 15 laptops with AMOLED screens released in Q1 2021 have lowered the price bar for laptops with AMOLED screens to $ 900. This pushed Asustek to launch its VivoBook Pro 14 laptop with an even more aggressive pricing.
Given the growing availability of laptops with AMOLED displays, Omdia predicts global shipments of AMOLED laptop panels in 2021 to reach 5.112 million pieces. For comparison: in 2020, 980,000 units were shipped.
The Chinese company Sigmaintell Consulting is even more optimistic about the prospects for the supply of AMOLED panels for notebooks. Its experts expect that in 2022 more than 7 million of these panels will be shipped, while Samsung Display alone will produce 5 million pieces. Moreover, it is expected that in 2023 the volume of deliveries will exceed 15 million units, and the level of market penetration will be 7%.
According to industry sources, LG Display currently offers 13.4-inch AMOLED panels for Lenovo, while EDO is focusing on making 15.6-inch models. BOE Technology and Sharp may also start shipping AMOLED panels for laptops in 2022.
According to the same company Sigmaintell, in 2021 the global supply of AMOLED panels for tablets should reach 6.5 million pieces, of which 4.5 million will be shipped by Samsung Display, and the remaining 2 million – by EDO. In 2022, shipments of AMOLED panels for tablets will approach 10 million pieces.
