Signing of MoU between EYDAP and Lamda for integrated water management in the Metropolitan Pole of Hellinikon

EYDAP announced on Thursday the conclusion of a Memorandum of Cooperation and Understanding with Lamda Development SA, through its subsidiary ELLINIKO S.A. (“LAMDA”) which concerns the water supply, drainage and facility for the production of recycled water, as well as an urban and peri-urban distribution network of recycled water to cover the needs of the Metropolitan Pole Hellinikon – Agios Kosmas.

The Memorandum was signed in the context of the implementation of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) of the Hellinikon – Agios Kosmas Metropolitan Pole of the Attica Region, with the aim of utilizing and redeveloping the site of the former Hellinikon airport.
EYDAP, in the context of the cooperation with ELLINIKO S.A., will supervise the construction of the water supply, drainage, production and disposal of recycled water projects, while, after their completion, it will assume responsibility for their operation, maintenance and management . EYDAP will also carry out large-scale projects in order to ensure the adequate coverage of the water supply needs of the Metropolitan Pole of Hellinikon which are estimated at 17,000 cubic meters per day in its full development. Finally, the construction of a recycled water production facility is planned which will cover the needs of the communal and open green spaces of Hellinikon Park. The capacity of the above installation, in full development, will be of the order of 7,000 cubic meters per day.

For the two Companies, the application of the rules of the circular economy is a key factor in their strategic planning and the implementation of their investment plans, making use of all technologically advanced water resources management tools with the ultimate aim of preserving the resource and protecting the environment and public health.

The CEO of Lamda Development SA, Mr. Odysseas Athanasiou, also referred to the importance of the Memorandum, stating among other things: “The regeneration of Hellinikon is a point of reference for sustainable development, innovation and pioneering. For the first time in Greece, an innovative biological wastewater treatment plant will be built and a network of recycled water to cover the needs of shared green and open spaces. This project in its full development aspires to cover all the needs of the Metropolitan Pole Hellinikon – Agios Kosmas and to be an example of good management of water resources. Faithful to our commitment we implement the largest urban regeneration in Europe committed to protecting the environment for the benefit of the country and its citizens”.
