“Silence”, photos from the school at the time of the pandemic

Cinzia Pedrizzetti, photographer and director, this year when she accompanied her son to school for the first time she had to leave him at the gate. Wolf entered a first grade in Milan alone, and shortly thereafter he would discover a class made of single banks, and new mates with one colored mask on the face.

And the school in times of pandemic, which in this 2020/21 has alternated presence with DAD. An unprecedented and unimaginable school, which we all hope will never return.

And it is to “document such a unique historical moment, through the eyes of manyù little ones” that Cinzia Pedrizzetti wanted to pick up her camera.

The resulting project is entitled “Silence”. “The title was probably suggested to me by the feeling I had looking at these photos,” says Cinzia, who between November 2020 and February 2021, starting from that of his son, he laid his gaze on several elementary schools in Milan, “The looks of children have a power that words often fail to reach, and at this moment their voice seems to have been forgotten”.

The first time she entered the classroom to take these photos, Cinzia continues, it was very strong: «Seeing these children, sitting far away, separated, but facing this new adventure that is school for them with great enthusiasm». Wolf he doesn’t know what it is to have a desk mate, but he can’t wait to get into class anyway. “Face-to-face teaching is important not only for learning, but also for comparison, to learn from the other”, he says again.

Wolf Covid-19 has learned to call it only «virus». “And when it’s gone,” he says, “we’ll all have a big party on the street“. We can not wait.
