Silicon Motion Technology, a solid-state drive controller company, has unveiled the SM2320 single-chip model for portable external SSDs. According to the manufacturer, the SM2320 is the fastest controller of its kind.
The controller includes four NAND channels and an external USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. It offers sequential read speeds up to 2100 MB / s and sequential write speeds up to 2000 MB / s. By eliminating the separate USB bridge chip commonly used in external SSDs, it has been possible to reduce the list of drive components and reduce power consumption. The controller supports up to 4TB TLC and QLC NAND memory chips. It implements Silicon Motion NANDXtend ECC end-to-end data channel protection. In addition, security benefits include support for 256-bit AES encryption, full compliance with the Opal Trusted Computing Group (TCG) specification, and support for restricting access using a fingerprint sensor.
