Silvio Berlusconi, the coffin and the burial

Boards of solid wood, four centimeters thick, of Honduran mahogany, naturally dried, not assembled, but obtained from a single trunk. It is the description of the coffin of Silvio Berlusconi. The coffin is a model produced by Art Funeral Italy of Caravaggioin the province of Bergamo, which supplied the Milanese funeral home agency that deals with the state funeral according to reports from the Corriere della Sera.

The coffin

«It is a valuable product», Paolo Imeri, the owner of the firm, explained to the Milanese newspaper, «made with boards of precious solid wood, four centimeters thick, of Honduran mahogany. The pieces have not been assembled, because it is a single wood that comes from the trunk of one huge plant. In this way, the continuity of veins or figures is guaranteed, a true fingerprint of the wood. The same characteristic is found in the grooved wood used to make the modern dashboards of luxury cars».

The model is called23 Cathedral», mahogany red color with intense brown streaks, and was made in 15 days by hand, therefore with an entirely artisan work, with a diversified varnish: «brilliant on the lid and sides, satin and opaque on shapes and handrails». No indication of price. «I prefer not to reveal it, just as for reasons of confidentiality I have obscured that kind of hood on our site where all our creations are located. I can only add that it is the same type of coffin in which the entrepreneur Leonardo Del Vecchio lies, who disappeared a year ago in these times».

The burial

There are open hypotheses, none confirmed by the family for now. There has been much talk over the years of the mausoleum built by Peter Cascella in the garden of Villa San Martino in Arcore: 36 niches around a central burial to house family and friends where Emilio Fede asked for a place to be reserved for him too. For now, no one rests here.

“Don’t make me a mortuary thing with skulls and ferns,” the businessman said then. Cascella represented the Celestial Vault using, in four years of work, over 100 tons of marble white made to arrive from the Apuan Alps.

However, this would not be the possible burial place because for the private burials outside cemeteries, question that dates back to Napoleonic edicts and Foscolo’s sepulchres, specific authorization from the Municipality is required. The mayor of Arcore Maurizio Bono said that no request has arrived at the town hall and technically it is not something that can be done.

The other hypothesis would be that of Monumental Cemetery of Milan where the parents of Silvio Berlusconi, Rosa and Luigi, who died in 2008 and 1989, were buried. The hypothesis of a place in the Famedio of the city cemetery was put forward by the Milanese representation of Forza Italia, where illustrious personalities rest, but there is nothing official about that either.

The remains of the parents, however, according to what Vittorio Sgarbi said, would no longer be at the Monumental. They would be in Arcore after being cremated. «When I asked him where the parents were, he took me to the late Baroque chapel of Villa San Martino: on the altar there is a“ Judgment ”by Procaccini and on the sides of the painting the two urns». Cremation would therefore be an open hypothesis. From the Municipality they explained to the newspaper The day that the transfer of the urn after cremation: “It must be communicated where it is transferred and one of the residents of Villa San Martino, or Mrs. Marta Fascina and Pier Silvio Berlusconi, must take delivery of it”.
