In an interview with the website Carnavalesco, Raphaela Nascimento, president of Tradição, commented that redoing the parade that featured the presence of the founder of SBT would not cause the same emotions. “What made history in 2001 was a historic day. He participated in every detail, lived every moment, all his friends were there, like Hebe and Gugu, it was remarkable”, she said.
The 2001 parade told the story of the presenter and included several of his successful programs in the composition of the samba theme. The presentation was narrated by the late Glória Maria and journalist Cléber Machado, an announcer for SBT. In addition to Silvio, the group’s time at Sapucaí brought figures such as Hebe Camargo and Gugu, who have already passed away, and Ratinho, who remains with the station.
“Silvio Santos embraced the school. And the story about him was the turning point for Tradição”, said Raphaela in the interview.
“There are things that never come back, and what is gratifying is to see the passing of an icon, to see the Tradition parade. We are not going to change the theme, but we will have a tribute on the last float, because he was Jewish and our theme is about prayer,” he told Carnavalesco.
In 2025, the school will present a samba-enredo at Sapucaí that talks about different religions. According to the caption of the publication on the school’s social networks that explains the choice, “it goes beyond religious walls and connects with the divine, the sacred, with God. Praying is having faith and believing in that which often cannot be seen.”
