Silvio Santos: SBT makes live programming in tribute to the founder

THE SBT paid tribute during his live programming to its creator, Silvio Santos who passed away this Saturday (17) at the age of 93. Known as Mr. Abravanel the businessman founded the Brazilian Television System in 1981 and, since then, has run the channel that launched the careers of several famous people who are prominent on Brazilian television today.

The tribute program began at 11:30 am, more than an hour after the announcement of the death, without interrupting the showing of children’s cartoons on Sábado Animado.

After showing a retrospective with images of Silvio Santos on SBT, presenting his programs and interviewing celebrities, the channel’s live news program went to Brasília to await President Lula’s statement. The channel highlighted the repercussions of politicians on the businessman’s death.

In addition, a presenter showed live a museum in honor of the presenter that is located inside his station, collecting items that show Santos’ trajectory at SBT.

The cause of Silvio Santos’ death, according to a medical report from the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, where the presenter was hospitalized, was bronchopneumonia after an infection with Influenza (H1N1).
