Although many do not know, the presenter Silvio Santos who died this Saturday at the age of 93, was the theme of a samba school in 2001. On that occasion, he was honored by the samba school Tradition which told the presenter’s story and included several of his successful programs in the composition of the samba-enredo.
In addition to Silvio, the club’s visit to Sapucaí also brought figures such as Hebe Camargo and Gugu who have already passed away, and Mouse which continues on the channel. The parade was also narrated by the also deceased Glory Mary and the journalist Cleber Machado, now also an announcer for SBT. See an excerpt:
“I don’t know if I deserve this tribute, but I know that you people from Rio, we people from Rio, are always very playful, very welcoming, very generous and maybe I am receiving a part of all of this. To all of you people from Rio, my fellow countrymen, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart,” he said at the time.
During this year’s Carnival, SBT broadcast the 2001 parade as a surprise. The in-house evening news program, SBT Brasil, ended up closing early and gave space to the parade that took place 23 years ago. When it was shown with the credit “images from the internet”, the surprise broadcast also generated repercussions on X, the former Twitter.
