Simon Rex, former colleague of Meghan Markle: “They offered me some money to invent a relationship with her”

“It’s nice to know there are still decent people.” With this note Meghan Markle he officially thanked his colleague Simon Rexneo winner ofIndependent Spirit Award Best Lead Actor for Red Rocketthese days at the cinema, for having protected her from a new scandal.

To reveal it was Rex himself, who he had worked with the Duchess of Sussex in 2005 in the sitcom Cuts. According to the actor, in 2020, some British tabloids (he did not specify which ones) would have them offered considerable figures to have his story told relationship with Prince Harry’s wifea relationship that, however, Rex says, “There has never been”: “We worked together, we were colleagues on the set, and we once went for lunch togetherbut there has never been anything elseHe told al Guardian the 47-year-old actor, adding that he firmly has refused the offer. And yes that the figure put on the plate by the tabloids, according to what he says, would have been very useful: “I was really broke in that time, I really needed that money, but I would have been reduced to getting on with food subsidies rather than doing something like that“.

These, in general, are agreements that do not come out of the offices of managers, especially when they are not successful, yet the matter reached the ears of the Duchess of Sussex which, relieved of not having to face yet another and rather itchy media dispute (in Red Rocket, Simon Rex plays a former porn actor), wrote him a thank-you note in his own hand.

Incidentally, just before they had started the disagreements between Prince Harry’s wife and the British tabloidsthen ended up in one lawsuit who saw Meghan Markle and the editorial group who owns the Daily Mailaccused of violation of privacy. Only before Christmas did the London Court of Appeals uphold the first instance ruling condemning the publisher and reiterating that the publication on Daily Mail And Mail on line of excerpts from the letter to the father Thomas Markle he had violated the Duchess’s privacy.

In short, if, to paraphrase Dante, more than thehonor could the hunger and Rex accepted that money, another boulder would have fallen on Meghan. But not only on her: also on her husband Harry, and – to go up – on her whole family, especially on the Queen. And the actor of Scary Movie, despite not being a British subjectdid not feel it: “I would never, ever put the royal family in trouble,” he declared convinced and respectful. And for once at Buckingham Palace they have an American to thank for the narrow escape.
