Singapore “opens the door” to travelers who will have a digital health certificate

Travelers who will use an application on their mobile phone, which will provide them with a travel permit and will contain digital certificates with information for diagnostic tests for the coronavirus and for the COVID-19 vaccine, Singapore will be welcoming it from next month, as announced on Monday (5/4) by the Civil Aviation regulatory authority.

In this way, Singapore will become one of the first countries to adopt this initiative.

Singapore will use the International Air Transport Association (IATA) application for pre-departure checks, where travelers can obtain a permit to travel by air to Singapore by displaying a mobile application containing the necessary data from approved laboratories .

This digital health certificate successfully tested by Singapore Airlines.

More than 20 airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines, are also testing the pass.

“The success of our joint efforts will make IATA cooperation with the Government of Singapore a model for others to follow,” IATA Director General Willie Walsh said in a statement.

This island state, which mentioned relatively few cases of coronavirus this year, holds a leading position in the development and use of technology during the pandemic and wants to be among the first countries to reopen to host international events.

The airlines, according to the Athens News Agency, hope that more countries will approve mobile applications with digital pass that will allow them to resume air travel and avoid complications and delays at airports, where many document checks are required.

Travelers from most countries are currently required to take a coronavirus test before traveling and specifically within 72 hours of their flight to Singapore. The test results are provided upon departure from the airport and upon arrival.
