Singer Aurora swaps drummer after accusation of Nazi gesture at Lollapalooza

Singer Aurora, who performed at Lollapalooza in São Paulo last month, announced that she will change the drummer of her band for the next shows of her tour in Mexico.

The decision comes after Sigmund Vestrheim allegedly made a hand gesture associated with white supremacy at the end of the show in São Paulo.

On her Instagram, the artist published a long text this Sunday (9), apologizing to her fans for what happened and for the pain and confusion that this fact caused in people. She also defended the musician, saying that he is a “loved and well-known musician in Norway” and that it would make no sense for him to support “right-wing extremism without facing consequences”.

In the post, the Norwegian responds to a series of facts brought by internet users that led to the belief that the drummer was a white supremacist. Aurora said that it all, put into context, “sounds horrible and almost impossible to deny, but in fact there is an explanation for everything.”
For this return to Mexico, the singer informed that she will return with an old friend and that the fans will enjoy receiving him.

Lolla 2023: Singer Aurora denies that drummer is a white supremacist after controversy with gesture

On March 26, Sigmund Vestrheim made a gesture similar to an “ok” with his hands at the end of Aurora’s concert at Lollapalooza in São Paulo. The exact moment was recorded and published by a musician on Twitter, who questioned the attitude.

After that, through searches on the drummer’s own Instagram, fans found an old publication by the artist, containing Nazi elements – such as a swastika and the number 777. Vestrheim justified the post, saying that he made the drawing when he was a teenager, being only a joke and it didn’t mean anything.

He also stated that he would never be hired to play with Aurora if he was a “Nazi idiot”. On social media, the drummer asked everyone to believe in him and that he never meant to cause any harm.
