Singer R.Kelly is sentenced to pay $300,000 for victims

The award-winning American R&B singer, R. Kelly convicted twice this year of sex crimes, will be required to pay at least $300,000 in damages to some of his victims, a federal judge said Wednesday.

The money will compensate two women, known as Jane and Stephanie, for the costs of herpes therapy and treatment, US District Judge Ann Donnelly told a hearing in the New York borough of Brooklyn.

The amount will likely increase after prosecutors recalculate the cost of the drugs for Stephanie.

Donnelly denied prosecutors’ requests to compensate Jane for the loss of income and to provide any kind of compensation to a third victim, known as Sonja.

Kelly attended the hearing remotely, from a federal prison in Chicago.

In June, Donnelly sentenced the singer to 30 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of racketeering and other charges.

Prosecutors said Kelly, 55, had exploited her stardom and wealth over more than two decades to lure underage women and girls for sexual purposes.
