Messages circulate via WhatsApp, SMS or email informing that the federal government is giving a new Auxílio Brasil of R$ 2,500.00 through transfer via Pix. This is a new scam that has been applied by websites.
The victim can still receive a message with a link to check if they are entitled to the benefit, just enter some data to make the false verification.
In the last week alone, from the 13th to the 20th of July, the cybersecurity company PSafe, identified 17 websites improperly using the name of the “Auxílio Brasil” program to carry out scams.
In the period, more than 140 thousand attempts of coups were blocked, equivalent to more than 20 thousand per day, more than 833 per hour and 13 per minute.
According to the chief security officer at PSafe, Emilio Simoni, in the first half of 2022, the company’s security systems have already detected an average of 55,000 attempts per day and 2,300 per hour.
The scam is called “phishing”, a method widely exploited by cybercriminals, mainly due to the high power of dissemination.
On some of the sites they already include the share button as a condition for receiving the false benefit, which is to induce the victim to propagate the scam more easily.
To have access to the benefit, it is mandatory to be in the Single Registry (CadÚnico) and this registration can only be carried out in person.
Therefore, when in doubt, it is recommended that information be consulted on official channels, and that messages are not shared, as, even if unintentionally, they can contribute to other people falling for the scam.
