The state of Santa Catarina is on alert due to heavy rains this week, which caused three deaths and the disappearance of two people.
The information was confirmed by the head of Civil Defense of the state Colonel Armando, CNN Radio.
According to him, the firefighters are working to locate the missing with sniffer dogs, but there is difficulty because there is still a risk of landslides.
“So far, the rain has displaced 230 people and 21 municipalities have reported incidents this week. The worst rain was on Tuesday and today we will have similar weather conditions, we are attentive.”
According to Colonel Armando, there are interdictions on the BR-470 and BR-376, which affect mobility in the state.
“This situation is serious for us, it makes it difficult even for the firefighters and the Civil Defense, who are already affected by the rain,” he said.
According to him, the “situation has been getting worse because it continues to rain.”
The Civil Defense chief warned that the population should be aware of cracks and look for weather alerts, in order to leave their homes and seek shelter.
The Civil Defense has the number 199 and the national number 193 to provide assistance.
Prevention is a job that Coronel Armando considers essential.
He says that there are three dams under construction in the Itajaí Valley, but that “it takes some time.”
“We have carried out, in partnership with the municipalities, a survey of risk areas and establishment of contingency plans. We monitor this in all cities”, he added.
