Six Brazilian bars, including addresses in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, are among the 500 best in the world in 2023. This is what the ranking points out Top 500 Bars which aggregates data from across the internet to compose the list, made using an algorithm.
The best placed bar among national addresses is the one in São Paulo Tan Tan in Pinheiros, in 61st position . Led by Thiago Bañares the contemporary oriental bar features exquisite signature cocktails and had already achieved 56th place this year among the 100 best in the world in the select list of The World’s 50 Best Bars.
More Brazilians in the ranking
Then comes the SubAstor in Vila Madalena, which appears in the 192nd position among the 500 in the world, which was also highlighted in The World’s 50 Best Bars this year, ranking in 58th place.
The other Brazilians placed in the Top 500 Bars ranking are:
- 213th: Bar dos Arcos (São Paulo)
- 342º: Bar do Cofre (São Paulo)
- 440º: Meza Bar (Rio de Janeiro)
- 486th: Guardhouse (São Paulo)
First placed
Number 1 in the ranking is Maybe Sammy located in Sydney, Australia, a bar inspired by the 1950s. The New Yorker Double Chicken Please voted this year the best in North America by 50 Best Bars, comes in second place.
Who completes the podium is the Paradise in Barcelona, Spain, which was already the best in the world in 2022.
This year, the bars on the Top 500 Bars list belong to 122 cities in 53 countries. The top 100 were revealed in an in-person ceremony on Sunday night (12) in Paris, France.

The ranking
Released since last year, the Top 500 Bars list is made using an algorithm that feeds on data from more than two thousand sources, which includes important sector rankings, articles, platforms and social networks.
According to Top 500 Bars, the algorithm builds the ranking based on the authority of sources and existing lists, taking into account local, regional and global criteria, as well as collective opinion.
“In the era of big data, Artificial Intelligence and other digital revolutions, it seemed important to us that the bar industry took advantage of these innovations to determine a global ranking”, says the official website, which is managed by the Le Cocktail team Connoisseur, blog about bartenders and cocktails.
