DePape, 42, has been charged with a range of crimes, including assault, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping for the incident, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the San Francisco District Attorney announced Monday.

He was charged with “attempted kidnapping of a US employee,” according to the US attorney’s office for the Northern District of California. That allegation refers to Nancy Pelosi, whom DePape told police she planned to “hold hostage,” according to an FBI statement also made Monday.

The charge of attempted kidnapping carries a maximum of 20 years in prison, and the suspect has not yet appealed to the Federal Court.
