Six dead and dozens injured by tornadoes in Tennessee, USA – Among the victims is a child

At least six people died in Tennessee USA from the tornadoes and the strong storms that swept the state on Saturday. Three people have been confirmed dead in Madison, Tennessee, north of Nashville, emergency management officials said.

“We have teams assessing the damage and looking for those affected”the Nashville Office of Emergency Management said on Twitter. “Unfortunately, we can confirm that there are three fatalities as a result of the severe weather on Nesbitt Lane.”

Officials in Montgomery County also confirmed three deaths, including a child, after a tornado hit the Clarksville area.

“At this time we can confirm that three people have died, two adults and one child, as a result of the tornado that struck this afternoon”a Montgomery County government release said. “Additionally, 23 people have been hospitalized.”

Officials said they were still in the “search and rescue phase” to determine if there were more dead or injured.

“This is a sad day for our community. We pray for those who were injured, lost loved ones and lost their homes”Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden said in a statement.

The city of Clarksville declared a state of emergency Saturday night, Mayor Joe Pitts announced. Police imposed a curfew at 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday night.

“This is sad news and our hearts go out to the families of those who have lost loved ones. The Municipality is ready to help them in their time of mourning”Pitts said in a statement.

Government officials in Sumner County said Saturday there was “significant damage” from a tornado that touched down in Gallatin and Hendersonville, Tennessee, northeast of Nashville.
