Six migrants died and 40 are missing after a wreck on the Italian island of Lampedusa on Tuesday night (18), Italy’s main news agency, Ansa, and other media, reported on Wednesday (19).
Italian coastal guard vessels have so far rescued 10 people and resumed the search for any other survivors on Wednesday morning, they reported to ANSA and other news agencies.
The Italian Coast Guard did not immediately respond to a Reuters request to confirm the reports.
The survivors told rescuers that many among a group of 56 migrants fell into the water due to bad weather after departing from Tunisia in a boat, reported the media.
