Six Iraqis Executed in Nasiriyah Prison – Three Convicted of Terrorism

Six Iraqis who had been sentenced to death, three of them on her charge terrorism, were executed today by hanging in a prison in southern Iraq, according to medical sources, cited by AFP.

The executions took place in her prison Nasiriyah, where the death row inmates are held.

The three men had been convicted of terrorism and the others of other crimes common criminal law, without political motive.

The execution order was ratified, as always, by the President of Iraq Barham Saleh who has stated that on a personal level he stands against of the death penalty.

According to the APE, Iraq is the fourth country in the world in the number of executions, according to Amnesty International. The organization recorded more than 45 executions last year. Many of these people had been sentenced to death for their involvement in the jihadist organization Islamic state.

According to a count of the French Agency, at least they have been executed this year 14 people on the charge of terrorism.

All the executions take place in the Nasiriyah prison, which the Iraqis call “al-Hut”, meaning “whale“, Because none of those who are transported there come out alive again.
