Six schools parade on the second day of the Special Group in Rio de Janeiro

Six schools of the Special Group close the parades at the Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro, this Saturday (23).

The parades are expected to start at 10 pm, with each group taking between 60 and 70 minutes to perform at Marques de Sapucaí. Carnival 2022 marks the return of revelry after two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the planning of the Independent League of Samba Schools (Liesa), the order of this Saturday’s parades will be Paraíso do Tuiuti, Portela, Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, Unidos da Tijuca, Grande Rio and Vila Isabel. The last club must enter the avenue between 3 am and 4 am on Sunday (24).

THE Tuiuti’s paradise will parade with the theme “Ka ríba tí ÿe – May our paths be open”. With the signature of the carnival artist Paulo Barros, the association will talk about the stories of black struggle and resistance, extolling the contribution of great black icons to humanity.

already the portela will present the plot that portrays the symbology of baobabs, ancient trees originating in Africa. Maracatu, maculelê, tambor de creola, caxambu, jongo and funk will be some of the Afro-Brazilian manifestations remembered by the association.

Third school to parade, the Independent Youth of Father Miguel pays homage to Oxóssi, orixá of African religions. The association will also celebrate great icons of “Bateria Nota 10”, such as masters André, Coé, Quirino and Jorjão.

Soon afterwards, the United of Tijuca takes to the Sambadrome the legend of the emergence of guaraná, based on the plot “Waranã – A Reexistência Vermelha”. The school in the North Zone of Rio will also address the resistance of indigenous peoples.

With the plot “Speak, Majeté! The seven keys of Exu”, the Academics from Grande Rio wants to break the negative image of Exu, one of the most important orixás of African-based religions. The group’s plot seeks to show the public that it actually represents deliverance and prosperity.

THE States of Vila Isabel closes the Grupo Especial parades, with the samba “Canta, canta, minha gente! The village belongs to Martin”. With the carnival artist Edson Pereira, the association pays tribute to one of its greatest icons, the singer and songwriter Martinho da Vila.

And the revelry in Rio de Janeiro will not be restricted to the Sambadrome. Despite having been banned by Mayor Eduardo Paes, at least eight blocks should take to the streets this Saturday (23), most of them in the central region of the state capital.
