Six-year record in job vacancies

At the same time, the official data record an increase in job vacancies and a decrease in unemployment. In other words, as more and more unemployed people find work, the number of jobs that “look for” new employees increases.

Specifically, the highest number of vacancies was recorded by ELSTAT since 2017. According to the data of this service, vacancies in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to 16,603. The previous high was 18,666 in the first quarter of 2017.

At the same time, this year there was a record increase in job vacancies from year to year.

Specifically, job vacancies in the first quarter of 2022 in relation to in the corresponding quarter of 2021 increased by 148.4%. Never before – since 2009 when there is a record by ELSTAT – has there been such a large increase between 12 months.

The same, according to the data of DYPA (formerly OAED)unemployment continues to fall.

According to the data for May 2022, the unemployed in May decreased by 86,719 people or 8.56%, reaching 926,444 compared to 1,013,163 in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the data announced by the Public Employment Service ( ΔΥΠΑ).

In particular, the total number of registered unemployed, based on the job search criteria (job seekers), for the month of May 2022, amounted to 919,236 people.

Of these, 532,600 (percentage 57.94%) are registered in the register of D.YPA for a period equal to or more than 12 months and 386,636 (percentage 42.06%) are registered in the register of D.YPA. for a period of less than 12 months. Men amount to 318,977 (percentage 34.70%) and women amount to 600,259 (percentage 65.30%).

The total number of registered others (non-job seekers), for the month of May 2022, amounted to 7,208 people. Men amount to 2,676 (percentage 37.13%) and women to 4,532 (percentage 62.87%).

The total number of subsidized unemployed, for the month of May 2022, (concerns the number of beneficiaries paid within the respective month) amounts to 111,758 persons, of which 94,449 (percentage 84.51%) are common and other categories of subsidized and 17,309 (percentage 15.49%) are seasonal tourism professions. Men amount to 49,322 (percentage 44.13%) and women to 62,436 (percentage 55.87%).

Of the total subsidized unemployed 89,771 (80.33%) are common, 2,507 (2.24%) are builders, 17,309 (15.49%) are seasonal tourism professionals, 1,797 (1.61%) are seasonal others (rural), 324 (0.29%) are teachers, and 50 (0.04%) are others.
