The MTS operator’s team analyzed the retail smartphone market in Russia at the end of 2020. According to analysts, despite a short-term drop in demand in the second quarter, sales of gadgets showed a positive trend.
In general, in Russia in comparison with last year, the growth was 2.3% in physical terms and 14.3% in monetary terms. Analysts explain the trend by the fact that the pandemic in 2020 accelerated sales of modern gadgets, and consumer demand for smartphones is actively moving to the Internet. The number of mobile devices sold over the Internet increased by 60%.
Russians have become less likely to buy models costing less than 5,000 rubles, their sales have decreased by 15%. The number of purchased gadgets more than 50 thousand rubles in 2020 increased by 39.2% compared to last year. The demand for large displays is increasing – sales of devices with a screen diagonal of 6 inches or more in Russia increased by 50% compared to 2019.
As for the average cost of mobile devices in Russia, it increased by 12% to 18,500 rubles. The average cost of a smartphone among residents of Yakutsk showed a record growth and amounted to 19,863 rubles, which is 3,233 rubles more than last year. For comparison, gadgets were bought in Moscow for 3,000 rubles more expensive than the average Russian cost – for 21,852 rubles. Buyers from St. Petersburg chose models for an average of 22,085 rubles.
