SKAM Italia 6 is still the Italian series that plays in another league

The difference between SKAM Italy and half of the Italian audiovisual products dedicated to teenagers have always been done in the details. From the underwater kiss of Martino and Niccolò to the nocturnal procession in which Sana and Malik come across, passing through the imaginary tennis match played by Elia and Viola along the lines of the one represented by Antonioni in Blow Up. In season six, produced once again by Cross Productions and available on Netflix, there are plenty of details, all of which underline the delicate theme that the series has chosen to address, renouncing any rhetoric and any caption. See the care Asia takes to remove the fat from a very thin slice of meat while in the background you can hear an acoustic version of Barbie Girl and see her panting hidden behind a wall while her friends engage in a lively game of paintball it's what makes it SKAM Italy one of a kind, given that it seems that Italian series make an immense effort to deal with anything without underlining it and without constantly repeating it, as if the audience were too distracted to understand what they are talking about. Hoping not to do anyone spoilers to those who read – it goes without saying that those who have not yet seen the episodes are asked not to read further – it is clear that, this time, SKAM Italy has decided to aim high, delving into a very difficult topic that has always been reported with a certain superficiality by the media: the eating disorders that many boys and girls suffer from often without the parents' knowledge.

Nicole Rossi is Asiafrancesco ormando

Asiathe protagonist brilliantly played by Nicole Rossiwhich thanks to SKAM Italy inaugurates her career as an actress, manages the problem through obsessive control over the only thing that her young age allows her to control: the balance needle. Asia doesn't eat or pretends to eat. Following the administration of a contraceptive pill which led her to gain a couple of kilos, she decided to eradicate the problem at its root and do without everything superfluous: the sugary syrup inside a cocktail, the mayonnaise on top of the fries, passing through the chocolate biscuits and the spreadable cream on the bread. In SKAM Italy 6 the problem is there but you can't see it, given that Asia is very careful to ensure that her friends and parents don't notice what she's up to. Others are used to seeing her as one strong girl, like the leader of a group that aims to win the high school elections by fighting the neo-fascist kids who managed to beat her, and that's why nothing could make you think of the fragility that he keeps within himself and which slowly leads it to consume itself like the wax of a candle, given that it could no longer be taken by everything that surrounds it. From a group of friends who advise her to loosen up a bit to a boyfriend who has moved away for study reasons, not to mention her entry into her life a boy from Ciampino dropped into her school out of nowhere and hides a secret that will lead her to review many of her certainties.

Andrea Palma and Nicole Rossi

The latter, who in the series is called Giulio, is played by Andrea Palmavery good at giving the character different facets that serve to provide a precious connecting link between the periphery and the center, between good and evil. As the episodes grow, the plot becomes more and more dense and more and more mesmerizing, and manages to drag us into a microcosm that we would like to somehow enter to bring order and suggest to the characters the right path to take. What brilliant writing taught us Ludovico Bessegato, Alice Urciuolo and Elisa Zagaria it is, however, that the roads, even the darkest ones, are always useful when those who travel them demonstrate that they have the right awareness to discover what is hidden at the bottom. SKAM Italywhich in this season as well as in the fifth has chosen to focus more on new entries such as Lea Gavino (Viola), Maria Camilla Brandenburg (Rebecca), Benedetta Santibelli (Fiorella), Cosimo Longo (Jorge), Yothin Clavenzani (Munny) instead of historical cast members as Francesco Centorame (Elijah), Beatrice Bruschi (Healthy), Federico Cesari (Martin), Rocco Fasano (Niccolò), Martina Lelio (Federica), Ludovica Martino (Eve), Greta Ragusa (Silvia), Pietro Turano (Philip) e Nicholas Zerbini (Luchino), proves once again that he knows more than everyone else and that he is able to tell the story of adolescence in a credible way, using the wonderful direction of Tiziano Russo and all those details that, six years on, still leave us speechless.
