Skoda tests virtual reality glasses in the production of cars: how it happens

Skoda is testing HoloLens glasses and an augmented reality app on its production lines. With their help, company employees can project manuals, service checklists and other technical documents in front of them and always have quick access to them. In addition, augmented reality technology allows you to share this information during video conferencing, as well as use glasses in the learning process.

One of the top managers of the company, Miroslav Kroupa, said that augmented reality glasses increase safety in the workplace, speed up maintenance of the production process, allow working together at a distance, which is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic, and also bring a certain gaming element to work. Colleagues can demonstrate what they see in front of them, and thus help each other from a distance. The company expects this technology to help streamline the manufacturing process and reduce the likelihood of errors.

As for technical documents, they are projected after scanning the QR code placed on the equipment. Thus, an employee of the company can display the management hologram with photos and videos at any time, without being distracted from work. Completed tasks can also be marked with one hand movement over the hologram. Thanks to this, there is no need to be distracted by searching for documents, and the process of equipment repair becomes easier and faster.
