The increase in the subsidy to companies to deal with the energy crisis is promoted by the government, as revealed yesterday speaking to the Athens Chamber of Commerce, the competent Minister of Environment and Energy K. Skrekas.

According to the minister, the Greek government has submitted a request to the European Competition Commission in order to approve the highest grant. “We have submitted a proposal to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition so that for certain companies the subsidy covers 75% of the increase in electricity prices, from the 50% that was in January,” said Mr. Skrekas, speaking at his Board meeting. EEC adding that the Greek proposal concerns sectors that are more vulnerable to high energy costs. Depending on DGCOMP’s response, the time of implementation of the measure will depend, while in case Brussels responds immediately, then the grant will be valid from February.

RIS also stressed that the subsidies for electricity and gas for the month of February will not differ in terms of amount compared to January.

In addition to subsidizing electricity bills, Mr. Skrekas also referred to a number of other measures being launched focusing on energy savings. More specifically, Mr. Skrekas mentioned

– In the announcement of the program I save for businesses amounting to 450 million euros with the aim of upgrading the energy of the business buildings

– The possibility of subsidizing companies such as hotels and restaurants for the construction of photovoltaics and energy storage systems on adjacent plots or on roofs

– In the opening of the HEDNO platform so that companies that are electrified by a saturated network can install PV and utilize net metering.
