Skrekas: We are ready for even the most unfavorable scenarios of energy efficiency in the country

By Harry Floudopoulos

Even the most unfavorable scenarios for the country’s energy efficiency were examined during the meeting of the crisis management group under Energy Minister K. Skrekas. “We are closely monitoring the new data and we have examined all the scenarios,” the minister said, adding that the supply continues without any disruptions.

If necessary, DEPA and the other trading companies will bring additional LNG loads while the occupancy of the Revythousa station is high as only yesterday a load of 108 thousand cubic meters arrived. At the same time, the possibility of increasing imports through the TAP pipeline is being considered. PPC lignite plants, in addition to the daily mining activity, currently show the availability of lignite reserves in their yards that exceed 30 days, while the water reserves of the hydroelectric plants are high. Finally, there is always the possibility of 5 gas-fired power plants operating on diesel.

According to Mr. Skrekas, a significant problem is created due to the fact that the crisis that has pushed energy prices to unimaginable heights is being fed back. The minister said that the support of consumers and businesses will continue for as long as needed.

RIS stated that Greece has asked Brussels to take urgent measures to support the Member States in the face of the crisis, while describing as encouraging the fact that the Greek proposal submitted by Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis was included in the text of the council conclusions.

At the same time, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania requested the extraordinary convening of the Energy Council to investigate the taking of further support measures. The developments show the importance of the Greek proposal that was submitted already in the autumn for the creation of a central mechanism for supporting households and businesses. This is a pan-European problem that requires coordinated action at European level, concluded Mr. Skrekas.
