Sky Mavis Partners with Google Cloud to Launch Validation Node on Ronin

Google’s cloud arm has agreed to run a validation node on Axie Infinity’s creators’ Ronin network to help the company grow the network.

The developer of the popular NFT game Axie Infinity Sky Mavis has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Google Cloud to continue working on the decentralization of its Ronin network, an Ethereum sidechain designed for NFT-based games. The Google division will run a validation node on Ronin to help secure the network and improve transaction processing.

The specific terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but it is known that Google Cloud has been a strategic partner of Sky Mavis since 2020. Cloud solutions company Searce also joined the development.

Google Cloud spokesperson Ruma Balasubramanian said that through the implementation of the Play-to-Earn (P2E) concept, Sky Mavis is becoming a shining example of how cloud technologies can enable blockchain to bring innovation and great value to companies. Google Cloud will become the 18th Ronin validator, which will attract additional assets to the network.

In total, the company plans to host at least 21 validators on the network. Ronin has previously been joined by DappRadar, Yield Guild Games, Nansen, and Animoca Brands.

At the end of March, the network was hacked and lost more than $600 million in assets (17,600 ETH and 25.5 million USDC) as a result. Then the developers said that they would reimburse the losses in full.

Last month, analytics firm Blockckdata released a report that said Google parent company Alphabet has invested more than $1.5 billion in crypto companies.
