Skype for Android and iOS gets a fresh design and new features

Microsoft unveiled a big plan last month to improve Skype and bring it in line with other instant messaging applications. It has been confirmed that a number of new features will be added to Skype in the coming months.

Yesterday Microsoft announced the release of a new version of Skype for mobile devices that run Android and iOS operating systems. The update adds several important new features and improvements that many users have been expecting for quite some time.

First, Skype on the Web can now be used on an Android phone or tablet. Background blur for Skype online video calls is now available to all users, as is support for audio calls in Mozilla Firefox.

The camera functionality in Skype for iOS has been updated to take full advantage of Office Lens. Improvements have been made to Meet Now, and fixes for video rendering issues on mobile devices. Also implemented visual changes designed to modernize the look of Skype.

New features and improvements will be rolled out gradually over the next few days.
