A couple was shot dead while participating in a community event distributing toys to children, last Saturday night (12), in the Matadouro neighborhood, in the city of Campo Maior, Northern Region of Piauí.
According to the Military Police, at around 6:30 pm, two individuals who came out of a thicket wearing hoods fired several shots at the couple. The man identified as João Pedro died at the scene.
According to the Civil Police, the woman, recognized as Estefania Nayara, who was pregnant and was the mother of two children, was taken to the Campo Maior Regional Hospital, but did not resist and died.
In a statement, the police stated that the couple had already been arrested for the crime of drug trafficking and remained under investigation for alleged repetition of this crime in addition to participation in other crimes.
The Military Police also stated that the victims were companions and lived in a residence on Rua Nicodemos Silva, in the Matadouro neighborhood, where the Civil Police executed a search and seizure warrant in August this year.
According to the Public Security Secretariat, so far, there is not enough information to identify the perpetrators of the crime and the Campo Maior Sectional Police Station together with the Interior Police Directorate (DPI) are continuing with the investigations.
